SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCING
Welcome!
Great Bradley Scottish Country Dancers meet from 2 to 4pm on Monday afternoons in the Village Hall and extend a warm welcome to both experienced dancers and beginners.
Several of our dancers are now of intermediate standard but very much enjoy helping and encouraging newcomers.
The group was started in 2001 by Ella Hollins, an experienced Scottish Dancer who had recently moved to the area from the West Country. She offered to teach a class of very green beginners but under her expert tuition we have improved greatly!
The current group is of mixed ability and members come from the village and from as far away as Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds.
Learning new dances taxes the brain as well as being an excellent way to keep fit. Our group has a great deal of fun and, if you've the time, you can also dance on several evenings of the week and meet many more friendly dancers by visiting other nearby clubs.
We've held several Ceilidhs in the Village Hall and encouraged family and friends to come along and join us in simple country and sequence dances. These evenings have helped to raise funds for both the Village Hall and the Parish Church.
We've been brave enough to demonstrate our Scottish Dancing at the local WI, the Scottish Dancing Club in Bury St Edmunds and the local Keep Active classes at the Haverhill Sports Centre.
Some of us have ventured further afield and attended dancing weekends in Cornwall and Bournemouth. Ella had also organised our own Dancing Weekends at Lowestoft taking over the whole hotel and ballroom. The combination of sea air, excellent food and cheerful company proved to be an enormous success with dancers from Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich and even Devon joining us.
Occasionally Social Dances are arranged jointly with the Haverhill group with dancers from Bury St Edmunds and Saffron Walden joining us to fill the dance floor.
Scottish Country Dancing is certainly energetic but also great fun and very social.
To begin to explore the world of Jigs, Reels, Strathspeys and swirling kilts you just need a little sense of rhythm and a pair of light, soft-soled shoes.

Come and try a session, we are always delighted to see newcomers.
