2012 Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II
We don’t get a Diamond Jubilee very often. It’s unique in all of our lifetimes. There’s a special oneoff public holiday on Tuesday 5th June so let’s make it a day to remember! The Parish Council and Village Hall committee have arranged a programme of events around the village for you. We very much hope that everyone who possibly can will take part in at least one activity during the day, hopefully more. 10.30am -The day starts with a family walk and treasure hunt, organised and led by George Hendry. This will take a maximum of 1 hour, and will be along some of our excellent parish footpaths. There will be questions to answer and things to look for. This will not be a long walk and well within everyone’s capabilities. We can’t control the weather though, so please wear stout shoes and clothes that don’t mind a bit of mud, especially if it has been raining in the preceding few days. 11.30am - Charles Ryder will then unveil our new Interpretation Panel and footpaths map near the bridge on Hall Road. The family walk will finish at the right spot! Everyone is welcome to come to this event and those which follow. 11.35am - Next we move across the road to the churchyard, where Rev. Derek Hollis will dedicate our new Diamond Jubilee Seat. This will be followed by a Village Community Photograph in the churchyard. We hope that everyone in the village will come to this event, even if they aren’t able to come to anything else. As those of us who have spent time searching for information about our ancestors know, such photographs can be of great interest to local historians and to those researching their family history. 12.30pm onwards – Make your way to the splendid Hog Roast on the recreation ground. Pork, stuffing and apple sauce will be served in bread rolls from about 12:30pm. There will also be a vegetarian option, and salad, with dessert to follow, plus a bar with wine, real ale and soft drinks. All of this is free of charge to village residents and their friends and relatives. Food will be served until it runs out, so you don’t need to come promptly at 12:30, but the food is not unlimited so don’t leave it too late! At 1:45pm Anne Smith will open our new wild flower area in the grove on the recreation ground, and invite children to sow some wild flower seeds. This area has been established following the suggestion of a Clarendale resident and we hope to be able to enjoy the wild flowers as they become established over succeeding seasons. At 2pm there will be informal games including Rounders for adults and young people on the recreation ground, organised by Mike Parsons. At 3.45pm Rowan Sylvester-Bradley will inaugurate our new flag pole in front of the Village Hall, and the Union Flag will be hoisted. And finally at 4pm there will be a Children’s Tea Party at the Village Hall for all parish children and grandchildren. Why not dress in red, white and blue - and don’t forget your crown!
Didn’t we have a luverly time …
at the DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS! I would just like to say a big thank you to the Parish Council and the Village Hall Committee for organising the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in the village. It was nice to see so many people enjoying themselves and to see families celebrating together.
For me the highlight was the children's tea party in the village hall. The hall looked splendid with its
decorations and the table set out the length of the hall was lovely. I think it was a really nice touch that grandchildren were invited as well. My son was only a small child when we celebrated the Silver Jubilee in the village, but he remembers it well and to be able to celebrate this Jubilee with my little grandson sitting down to tea with all the other children was a touching moment.
So job well done and a pat on the back to you all.
