The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Children’s Art/Collage Competition & Children’s Time Capsule
It would be great to know how children see today’s world and what they predict for the future, which is why we want to create a Children’s Great Bradley - Time Capsule. We know that in this special Jubilee Year children are creating these across the country in their schools and communities and we really hope our village children will take part.
Details as follows:
• There are 3 categories:
• under 7 year olds
• 8 to 12 year olds
• 13 to 16 year olds
• Ideally the collage should be no bigger than 18 inches by 14 inches (46cm x 36cm).
• No staples, pins or anything metal please, they will rust and ruin everything they touch.
• What could be included? A painting of an area of the village either present day or what you think it will
look like in the future. It could also include photographs, ideas on transport, fashion or what we will be
eating. Anything goes. Please make sure your Name, Age and Address are clearly written on the back
of your picture/collage.
• Please tell us about your hopes and dreams for the future. These can be your personal hopes and
dreams as well as your dreams for the country or the world. These can be on a separate sheet of paper
maximum one side of A4. Please make sure your Name, Age and Address are clearly written on the
back of the page.
• Completed entries should be delivered to Pat Spires, 5 Clarendale or Annette Sugg, Tinerfe House,
Evergreen Lane by Tuesday 31st May.
• Entries will be judged and the best in each age category announced in St Mary’s Church on Thursday
2nd June between 6.30 and 7.45 pm. All entries will be on display during the pudding competition.
It is planned that all entries will be displayed in St Mary’s Church from 6.30 pm Thursday 2nd June and
over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Depending on the number of entries we hope to seal all of them in a waterproof container that will be
opened in 50 years’ time. We do hope you will encourage your children to take part, who knows they
could still be living in the area in 50 years’ time and it would be lovely to think their future selves would
be able to see their ideas, hopes and dreams from the past.

jUBILEE BAKE OFF
The Great Bradley Queen’s Jubilee Bake-Off Competition
The puddings will need to be baked at home and taken to the competition venue St Mary’s Church.
Before you ask “What is a pudding?”, we are going with the Platinum Jubilee definition and will welcome puddings that are layered or rolled, steamed or boiled, or resemble a pie, crumble, cake or tart. The main thing to remember is that the pudding must be sweet, so no Coronation Chicken!
The competition is open to adults and children and we will be awarding a trophy for the winners in both categories. The competition will take place on Thursday 2nd June at St Mary’s Church.
Here are the rules:
• Please ensure that a full list of ingredients accompanies your pudding. This is to avoid any problems
with food allergies and for those people who may not wish to eat certain ingredients.
• Under 16’s will be entered in the children’s category.
• Puddings can be decorated in any way you like, but they should be fit for a Queen.
• Adults should create a pudding that can serve at least 6.
• Children should create a pudding that can serve at least 4.
• In both categories, the puddings can be one large pudding or several individual ones.
• Puddings should be taken to St Mary’s Church at 6.30pm on Thursday 2nd June.
• Once judging has taken place puddings can be sampled by villagers.
If you want to enter the competition, please email [email protected].
Please note that this event will coincide with the Children’s Time Capsule Competition and precede the
very special evening organised by Charles & Alice Ryder, their family and Estate Team, so all food stuffs
must be removed from the Church by 8pm.

JUBILEE BEACON
Charles Ryder, of Great Bradley Hall Invited everyone in the village to the lighting of the Queens Beacon.
On Thursday evening 2nd June there will be a Nationwide lighting of Beacons by way of a traditional celebration for great events like the Platinum Jubilee. We are going to mark this remarkable Jubilee with a unique Beacon to be lit on a high point on the Great Bradley Estate.
The point of the Beacons is that they are as visible as possible and have traditionally been placed on high ground so that they could be lit as signals or warnings. For decades I have thought it would be a great idea to have a Beacon here on the high ground near Bradley Park Wood but I needed a reason; what better reason than The Platinum Jubilee!
The Beacon, in the form of a bonfire, will be at the top of the field known as Uptons, near Bradley Park Wood. The site is approximately 100 metres (328 feet) above sea level with commanding views up and down the wonderful Upper Stour Valley. Not for nothing is our local area sometimes called the East Anglia Highlands. The Great Bradley Beacon should be seen for very many miles around!
The Beacon Party will start after the Bake-Off and the Children’s Art/Collage, Time Capsule Competition in the Church finishes at about 8.00pm. There will be transport by tractor and trailer, and All Terrain Vehicles, to the site from the Covered Yard just next to the Church. Equally those who wish to walk can easily do so, it will take about 15 minutes.
We are being very kindly assisted with transport by our neighbour and farming partner, Colin Clifton-Brown and his team from Little Bradley Farms Company. All residents from Little Bradley are also welcome to the Beacon Party. For those not wanting to come to the site of the Beacon, it will be easy to view from the Jubilee Seat Area, opposite to the gates of The Hall. Refreshments will also be available there.
The Beacon will be lit at about 9.15pm in advance of the National Beacon ‘light up’ at 9.45pm because it takes time for bonfires to get going!
Transport back to the Covered Yard will be available from about 10.00pm.
Alice and I, together with Stephen, Colin, Sioux, Tara and all members of the Great Bradley Estate team, very much hope that you will be able to attend this unique event and we look forward to welcoming you all.

BUGLE FANFARE FOR THE jUBILEE BEACON
Olly, grandson of Helen & Peter from the village, played 'Majesty' - a bugle call written especially as a fanfare for the lighting of the Jubilee Beacons. Steve George of the village was Standard Bearer. It made for a very dignified occasion. Listen to the Bugle call here
JUBILEE DECORATIONS
A number of the properties round the village were decorated to celebrate the Jubilee weekend. Click on the pictures for a bigger image.
Nice touch from Crown House with this homage to the when the property was decorated for King George V Jubilee in 1937
Jubilee party
Because it rained all day, the Jubilee Party moved from the Recreation Ground to the Village Hall. It didn't dampen the spirits though!
There was a hog roast and drink for all; face painting and traditional games for the children. All those under 16 were presented with their Platinum Jubilee medals.
